This episode we are talking about a wine area unknown to most of us in the Northern Hemisphere, Western Australia.
In this episode, we discuss:
- Western Australia’s wine impact
- The three major wine region of Western Australia: Swan Valley, Great Southern, and Margaret River
- Tasty wine recommendations – you might have a difficult time finding several options from this wine if you live outside of Australia.
Wine Recommendations
Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2016 – priced around $25. This 100% Chardonnay wine has aromas of spice, stonefruit, pineapple, yeast and lemon curd. It has medium plus acidity, it’s dry with flavors of strong lemon and a hint of vanilla. Such a great balance between fruit and oak – the oak is there but not a buttery style chardonnay. It’s fresh, crisp and we really love the acidity in this wine, it’s not flabby at all.

Madfish Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 – priced around $18. This wine is actually a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Syrah, and 1% Petit Verdot. This wine has aromas of blue and blackberries, herbal liqueur and a hint of cedar. It’s dry, full bodied with medium acidity and medium tannins with flavors of dark chocolate covered berries, dried herbs and bitter coffee on the finish. We loved how balanced this wine was between acid and tannins but you will want to decant – the flavors really open over time.
