Ep 065 – Four Wines May 2017 Edition

It’s time for another edition of Four Wines! About every eight weeks or so we spend an episode talking about four random wines we drank recently. These wines might be varietals or regions we covered in a previous episode but the wine is so delicious that we can’t keep it to ourselves. This week’s episode takes a journey to Italy and the Western part of the US.

Four wines from left to right: Ste. Chapelle Soft White Chateau Series, Ava Grace Vineyards Merlot 2014, Antico Fuoco Rosso 2014 and Bortolotti Prosecco Treviso extra dry (in the front)

Wine Recommendations:

Antico Fuoco Rosso 2014 – priced around $13. This wine has a deep ruby color with a fruity nose of blackBerry and plum. It’s off-dry with medium acidity, light to medium tannins and medium body. Can drink on a slightly warm day because it’s so fruity with flavors of Black plum, blackberry, and blueberry. A lot of the plum skin flavor comes through so it’s a little tart and almost vegetal. A real lush, fruity and juicy wine, like biting into a fresh ripe black plum.

Bortolotti Prosecco Treviso extra dry – priced around $18. This wine has a light nose of apples and minerality. With a faint touch of sweetness, it has medium acidity and flavors of flowers, stone fruit, and apple. Serve this wine cold to sip on a warm day or pair with your favorite dish.

Ava Grace Vineyards Merlot 2014 – priced around $10. It has aromas of cherry, black pepper, fennel, dried herbs, dust,  and blackberry. This is a dry wine with medium body with Medium to high acidity and light to medium tannins. Thanks to its jammy fruity flavors of prunes, blackberry jam and a touch of vanilla, it almost tricks you into thinking it’s sweet. Great to pair with earthy or meaty dishes or to enjoy on its own. Really great representation of merlot – approachable, fruit forward, balanced acidity, alcohol and tannins.

Ste. Chapelle Soft White Chateau Series – priced around $10. This wine smells amazing with aromas of Lavender, honey, stone fruit, and flint. It’s medium sweet, with a medium body and acidity. With flavors of apricot, pear, honey and a hint of coconut on the finish, it pairs well with fruit, soft cheeses and desserts. Also it would probably go well with spicy food due to the sweetness or heavily aromatic spices like Indian food.
